Under the ACA, most health plans must cover many preventive services with no out-of-pocket costs (meaning no deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance). Some of these covered preventive services include colonoscopies for early cancer detection, screening for high cholesterol and high blood pressure, and PreExposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection. Medicaid also covers a broad array of screenings and preventive services for adults, and the Early and Periodic Diagnostic, Screening and Treatment (EPSDT) benefit for persons under age 21.
NHeLP works to protect coverage requirements for preventive services in Medicaid and ACA-regulated plans, which remain under threat in courts. We also work to remove access challenges that result in some children and adults not receiving the preventive services and screenings they need.
