Scope of Practice and Medicaid: State Flexibility to Cover Advanced Practice Care

Executive Summary

Advanced practice providers (APPs) are licensed health care practitioners, other than physicians, who may practice independently and bill directly under state law. This issue brief examines how Medicaid interfaces with scope of practice laws, and where states have flexibility to use an advanced practice workforce in the program.
