Assistant Director of California Policy

Skyler Rosellini (he/him) is the Assistant Director of California Policy at the National Health Law Program in Los Angeles, California. Skyler is passionate about advancing health equity for underserved populations and making health access education accessible so people of all backgrounds are empowered to insist on their rights.

Skyler uses his professional and lived experience to inform his work in protecting the health rights of Transgender and Gender-Diverse individuals and low-income individuals and families. Specific areas of his expertise include: eligibility and enrollment; due process rights and health insurance appeals (especially related to trans-related health care barriers, such as gender-affirming care barriers); advocating for quality demographic data collection; improving access to care for children with complex health needs, advancing best practices and improvements to health care services for LGBTQI+ individuals; long-term care for dual eligible individuals; and medical debt.

Before NHeLP, Skyler was a Senior Attorney and Outreach Coordinator at Bay Area Legal Aid’s Health Consumer Center. At BayLegal, he advocated for the health rights of Bay Area residents across eight counties with issues stemming from all sources of health insurance. As the Outreach Coordinator, Skyler provided training and education on a variety of health access topics across the Bay Area to collaborate with community partners who assist low-income individuals and families, and to educate community members about their rights to access quality care. He also supervised name and gender marker change clinics with health care access screenings for TGI communities in the local area.

Prior to that, Skyler was in private practice and served on the board of directors for Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF) from 2015 to 2019. Skyler received his B.A. from Saint Mary’s College of California and his J.D. from University of La Verne, College of Law.
