Coalition Letter on California’s Essential Health Benefits Benchmarking

Executive Summary

California is currently in the process of evaluating the State’s Essential Health Benefits benchmark plan. In response to a request for comment from the Department of Managed Health Care, NHeLP and a coalition of statewide health advocacy organizations submitted a letter explaining why the benchmarking process presents an opportunity for the State to close remaining gaps in coverage in the private market and address health inequities. The letter outlines the importance of a holistic and transparent process and the need for improvements in areas of coverage that impact Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and individuals with disabilities.
