Southern SRH Network

NHeLP’s Southern Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice, and Medicaid Advocates Network brings together sexual and reproductive justice advocates, legal aid attorneys, and policy experts from more than 40 organizations across the U.S. South.

Our network strengthens regional advocacy capacity to advance equitable access to sexual and reproductive health care (SRH) for low-income and underserved communities. We work to ensure that care is delivered free from stigma and discrimination and through a reproductive justice lens.

Our Vision

The South is home to deep-rooted, multi-movement expertise and powerful advocacy. Yet, systemic barriers and external, disconnected activism often threaten sustainable progress. We envision a connected, well-resourced, and resilient network of Southern advocates, fostering collaboration across states, sectors, and movements.

This effort emerged from conversations in the summer of 2020 between NHeLP and Southern state advocates who expressed a need for greater interstate and intrastate coordination, cross-sector learning, and shared strategy development.

How We Work

Confidential Summits: Advocates gather each spring and fall for summits to discuss pressing challenges, share strategies, and strengthen regional collaboration. These convenings foster collective problem-solving and conclude with healing sessions, ensuring participants leave empowered and reenergized.

Ongoing Collaboration: Our confidential listserv provides a trusted space for members to exchange updates, resources, event information, and direct requests for peer support.

Together, we are building a stronger, more unified advocacy network to protect and expand reproductive health and rights across the South.
