This brief shows how Medicaid already supports employment opportunities for people with disabilities seeking to work — supports that work requirements may undermine. It provides evidence showing that exemption processes for people with disabilities often fail and create additional red tape that leads to coverage loss. Many people with disabilities who want to work may seek an exemption due to the existential risk of losing access to vital Medicaid benefits.
