UMN School of Public Health Justice in Public Health Series: Reproductive Justice Denied: The Structural Violence of Recent Federal Health Care Cuts

Executive Summary

The University of Minnesota School of Public Health’s Justice in Public Health Series invites experts to lead discussions on matters of health equity, exploring the myriad ways that unjust systems impact the health of communities.

In this installment, NHeLP Senior Attorney Madeline Morcelle examined recent health care cuts through the lens of reproductive justice, arguing that they build on a history of structural violence within the U.S. health policy landscape. Morcelle offered the Medicaid and Reproductive Justice Collaborative’s “Reproductive Justice Principles for Federal Universal Health Care Reform” as a policy framework for assessing and advancing federal health care reform that centers inclusion, representation, and nondiscrimination and ensures affordable and comprehensive health coverage, including sexual and reproductive health coverage, for all.
