Health and Civil Rights Groups’ Comments on Calif. Proposed Merger of Catholic Health Systems

Executive Summary

The National Health Law Program along with more than 20 health, civil and human rights groups, filed comments with the California Department of Justice urging it to accompany a merger of two large Catholic health care systems in the state with “robust and enforceable conditions that protect community interests. In particular, we urge conditions that ensure community members can access health care services they need, including reproductive health services, health services for LGBTQ patients, and services for low-income and underserved communities, which includes uninsured patients, patients on Medi-Cal or Medicare, and patients who may access the hospitals’ charity care and community benefit services.”
