In 2016 Congress and the Obama administration recognized the pressing public health concern of the opioid epidemic and enacted two laws — the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) and the 21st Century Cures Act (Cures Act). NHeLP Health Law Fellow Hector Hernandez-Delgado explores “how CARA and the Cures Act will impact the fight to curb the opioid epidemic by both preventing and treating mental health-related issues and SUD [substance use disorder].”
