The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) filed on October 21, a “friend of the court” brief in federal court in California on behalf of Families USA, NHeLP, and 29 other health care and consumer advocacy groups, supporting a legal challenge to the Trump administration’s latest effort to sabotage the Affordable Care Act. The brief addresses the immediate harms consumers are experiencing because of President Trump’s recent decision to stop paying the ACA’s cost-sharing reduction payments that help low-income individuals and families access health care. The brief is field in support of the lawsuit, California v. Trump, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California by the Calif. Attorney General and attorneys general of 17 other states and the District of Columbia challenging Trump’s action to halt the ACA’s cost-sharing reduction payments.
