Amicus: Alaska v. Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest, Supreme Court of the State of Alaska

Executive Summary

The National Health Law Program and the Northern Justice Project filed an amicus brief in support of Planned Parenthood, urging the Alaska Supreme Court to enjoin a state law that limited abortion coverage for Medicaid-eligible women in Alaska based on an extremely narrow definition of medical necessity.

The amicus brief provides a detailed description of other states’ medical necessity definitions to show that Alaska’s law was an outlier.
