Michelle Yiu

Policy Fellow

Michelle Yiu is the Policy Fellow in the National Health Law Program’s D.C. office, where she researches health policy issues, monitors federal and state regulations and legislative bills, and supports the development and implementation of legal, policy, and advocacy strategies. Michelle just graduated with her B.A. in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. At UC Berkeley, she was active in multiple community health student organizations, such as The Suitcase Clinic, AAPI Health Research Group, and Bone Health Initiative. She also developed her interests in reproductive and sexual health as a Sex Education Instructor with the Asian Health Services Youth Program.

As a participant in the UCDC and Cal-in-Sacramento public service internship programs, she previously worked as a Health Policy Fellow for the Alliance for Health Policy and a Student Assistant for the California Department of Health Care Services’ Population Health Management Policy Section.

Within all these capacities, Michelle has grown to recognize policy as the ultimate upstream intervention to promote health equity and address social drivers of health. Her aspiration to work at the intersection of health policy, advocacy, and community health has led her to work at NHeLP to contribute to advancing the health rights of low-income and underserved populations.

Outside of her interests in health policy and community health, Michelle is a competitive ballroom dancer passionate about movement and music. She also enjoys spending her free time unwinding and exploring new activities and places with her partner, friends, and family.
