California’s Medicaid program, Medi-Cal, provides vital and comprehensive reproductive health care for millions of low-income women in the state that would be endangered if efforts in Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act and impose draconian cuts on the Medicaid program are successful , writes Senior Attorney Fabiola Carrión in the final issue brief of our 12-part “Protect Medi-Cal Funding” series, California’s expansion of Medicaid, Carrión writes, “brought coverage to nearly 4 million low-income individuals, including more than 1.8 million nonelderly adult women.” The proposals to cut or cap federal Medicaid funding in Congress, however, would imperil the state’s ability to provide quality care to its most vulnerable populations.
