Executive Summary
HHS requested information on supporting innovation and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical care. NHeLP’s response highlights the abundant research that discusses how AI in health care can exacerbate bias and lead to improper, harmful decisions. NHeLP’s comments also discussed how our experience with AI and the research shows that the risk with AI in health care is high, and certain protections like transparency and accountability are key to public trust and patient safety with the use of AI.
