Executive Summary
In these comments to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), NHeLPs conveys its support for the CDC’s proposal to update the 2016 Opioid Prescribing Guidelines. NHeLP’s comments highlight the negative consequences the 2016 guidelines have had on access to medically necessary opioid medications for pain, particularly for Medicaid and other low-income patients. Finally, NHeLP urges the CDC to explicitly convey the need to address opioid prescribing on a case-by-case basis in order to avoid harming individuals in need.
