In response to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Request for Information (RFI) regarding Affordable Care Act regulations, NHeLP filed comments urging HHS to support and bolster ACA implementing regulations that are empowering and protecting patients in the marketplace. “We disagree that HHS has impeded or interfered with the role of states in the regulation of health insurance,” NHeLP states in its comments. NHeLP notes for instance that HHS “has implemented robust consumer protections by ensuring that plans undergo rigorous compliance review and enforcement of non-discrimination standards.” NHeLP urges “HHS to work with states to ensure that there is adequate monitoring and oversight to enforce essential nondiscrimination and access protections.”
