Executive Summary
Following enactment of the Affordable Care Act, California’s Medi-Cal, which operates Medicaid in the state, expanded the scope of mental health services and benefits to fall in in with private market place plans. In a new Issue Brief, Managing Attorney of the NHeLP Los Angeles Office Kim Lewis and Staff Attorney Abbi Coursolle examine the changes to the state’s health care system, noting that while the scope of mental health services improved, “it made delivery and access to these services more complicated.” Lewis and Coursolle explain the complexities, and provide recommendations for improving delivery of mental health care services to beneficiaries.
