As part of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)-supported preventive service guidelines for infants, children, and adolescents, HRSA sought public comment on a proposed update to the Bright Futures Periodicity Schedule. The update would extend the upper age range for the existing universal HIV screening recommendation to age 21. Previously, the recommended age range to receive a universal HIV screen was from 15 to 18 years old. However, the new proposed expansion to age 21 would greatly improve health outcomes and reduce the further spread of HIV by individuals who are not yet aware they are infected. The National Health Law Program supports the proposed update and urges its implementation.
