Executive Summary

There are a number of laws and policies that govern continuity of care for Medi-Cal beneficiaries; some protect access to particular services or access to an existing provider for a course of treatment or for a period of time, and others protect a specific population of beneficiaries. Additionally, some of these protections are specific to Medi-Cal while others are more broadly applicable to consumers in certain types of managed care plans in California. This fact sheet provides an overview of the laws and regulations that require continuity of care for Medi-Cal beneficiaries.
