NHeLP Congratulates Dr. Wakefield on New Role as HHS Acting Deputy Secretary

WASHINGTON—Today, the National Health Law Program (NHeLP) released the following statement congratulating Dr. Mary Wakefield on being named Acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Wakefield currently serves as the Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) at HHS. 

“Dr. Wakefield will undoubtedly be successful as HHS Acting Deputy Secretary, as her direction at HRSA has made her a leader in expanding health care access across the country,” said Elizabeth G. Taylor, NHeLP executive director. “We look forward to her continued work in the department.”

Dr. Wakefield provided the keynote at NHeLP’s annual conference in 2014. She shared insights into where HRSA is focusing its efforts, and the connection between access to care and advancing public health.
