The News Leader: Can new IRS rules settle your medical debt?

After we reported on the charity care policies at Augusta Health and U.Va., quite a few people posted about struggles with medical bills.

You have about eight months (240 days) to apply to the hospital for financial assistance, advised Corey Davis, a staff attorney with the National Health Law Program.

“If the hospital takes action against you before that time, and you’re later found to be eligible for financial assistance, the hospital must take all reasonably available measures to reverse any extraordinary collection action it’s already initiated,” Davis said. Read the full article here. »
