National Health Law Program Receives Significant Grant from Open Horizon to Support Health Law Partnerships

The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) is thrilled to announce a generous grant from Open Horizon to support our Health Law Partnerships (HLP) program. This critical funding will enhance NHeLP’s collaborative efforts with state-based legal advocacy organizations to advance health care access and equity for low-income individuals and families across the nation.  Health Law Partnerships will be critical as we confront multi-faceted threats to health care in the months and years ahead.

“For fifty-five years, NHeLP has worked hand-in-hand with state advocates to break down barriers to health care for underserved communities. Since 2017, we’ve forged those relationships into official Health Law Partnerships,” said Elizabeth G. Taylor, Executive Director of NHeLP. “Open Horizon’s investment in our Health Law Partnerships enables us to deepen our support for state-based organizations tackling some of the most pressing health care challenges. Together, we are empowering advocacy that drives systemic change.”

Health Law Partnerships are powerful tools. We bring together experienced state-based advocates, NHeLP’s expertise and resources, and some funding to support the state partners. Through the HLP program, NHeLP and its partners have blocked illegal barriers to Medicaid, protected access to care during the pandemic, and been at the forefront of addressing issues arising from the nationwide, post-pandemic, Medicaid unwinding process. We work together to ensure that both states and the federal government comply with federal laws and that low income people have access to the health care they need.

“Health justice is a key focus of our foundation’s work. Open Horizon is inspired by our partnership with NHeLP, which is on the forefront of life-changing health equity work on both the state and national levels, improving access and health outcomes for significant numbers of Americans,” said D’Lynn Jacobs, Executive Director of Open Horizon.

Open Horizon’s support will allow NHeLP to expand this work, strengthening the program’s ability to tackle new and ongoing threats to health care access.
