Court Allows Texas to Exclude Planned Parenthood from Medicaid

AUSTIN, Texas — Yesterday afternoon, a state court declined to block the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s scheme to remove Planned Parenthood from its Medicaid program. The ruling jeopardizes the health and well-being of low-income Texans who rely on Planned Parenthood for a wide range of health care services. The ruling comes on the heels of the Biden administration’s executive order to strengthen Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act in response to the ongoing pandemic.

Texas already has a critical shortage of providers, and Governor Greg Abbott has made it even more difficult for Texans who live on low incomes to access quality reproductive health services. Planned Parenthood is a trusted health care provider and has remained a trusted provider during these unprecedented times. This move by the Governor confirms that the health of Texans is not a priority for his administration.
