Protect Medi-Cal Funding Series, Women’s Health in California

Executive Summary

California’s Medicaid program, Medi-Cal, is vital to the health of millions of women in the state, providing access to quality care for low-income patients, but that care is threatened by proposals pending Congress. In the second of a 12-part “Protect Medi-Cal Funding,” series, NHeLP Senior Attorney Amy Chen explains how the House Republicans so-called American Health Care Act (AHCA) would harm the health of women in California if Medi-Cal is forced to make extreme cuts to services and enrollment because AHCA cuts federal Medicaid funding by more than $800 billion. “Cuts in Medi-Cal coverage and services could have a devastating impact on already vulnerable populations of women, such as older women,” Chen writes in “Protect Medi-Cal Funding Series Women’s Health in California.” See the first in the series, on children’s health, here.
