Brit Vanneman, J.D., is a Staff Attorney for the National Health Law Program (NHeLP), where she supports two of NHeLP’s Practice Areas: Disability and Delivery Systems.
Prior to joining NHeLP, Brit worked as a Staff Attorney at the Judge David L. Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law. She worked on a variety of policy initiatives and systemic litigation efforts to advance the civil rights of people with disabilities. In this role, she primarily focused on expanding accommodations and creating equitable educational opportunities for K-12 students and higher education students, enforcing Medicaid’s requirement to provide children and youth with community-based intensive mental health services, and advocating for alternatives to congregate care for systems-involved youth with mental health needs.
Brit graduated from Georgetown University Law Center as a Public Interest Fellow. She is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. While completing her J.D., Brit interned with NHeLP, Senator Richard J. Durbin (D-IL), National Women’s Law Center, Children’s Law Center of D.C., and the National Center for Youth Law. Prior to law school, Brit managed a fundraising program for children’s hospitals at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which ignited her commitment to expand access to affordable health care. An Indiana native, Brit graduated from Purdue University with a B.A. in Communication.
Brit lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and enjoys nature adventures with her toddler, restoring thrifted finds, reveling in Swiftie lore, and cozy mornings with coffee.
