Executive Summary
Medicaid coverage is critical to building a healthy and stable workforce. The majority of adults enrolled in Medicaid who can work do. Because Medicaid enrollees work low-wage jobs that often lack employer-sponsored health insurance, Medicaid is often their only health coverage option. Medicaid makes it easier for individuals to find and maintain work, including people with disabilities, whose employment participation increases when states implement Medicaid expansion. Proposed Medicaid cuts, such as work requirements, per capita caps, and Federal Medical Assistance Percentage cuts, would destabilize our workforce. This fact sheet explains how Medicaid cuts would hurt the U.S. workforce.
