NHeLP Statement on the Final Public Charge Rule

WASHINGTON, DC — Elizabeth G. Taylor, executive director of the National Health Law Program, issued the following statement in response to the Biden administration’s new public charge rule:

“The National Health Law Program is proud to be a partner with the Protecting Immigrant Families coalition and enthusiastically welcomes the news that the Biden administration has definitively ended the draconian Public Charge rule put in place by the previous administration. We will continue to work with our partners to help lift the cloud of fear and uncertainty that has caused immigrant families to back away from accessing vital health, food, and housing benefits to which they are legally entitled. We also look forward to working with the Biden administration to ensure these regulations are implemented fairly and equitably, including for individuals who rely on Medicaid long-term institutional services.”
