NHeLP Stands with Southern Poverty Law Center Against Political Retaliation

Washington, D.C. — The National Health Law Program stands in solidarity with the Southern Poverty Law Center as it faces politically motivated attacks from this administration. For decades, SPLC has played a vital role in exposing violent white supremacist groups and other domestic extremists, while also defending the civil and human rights of communities targeted with discrimination and violence.

“SPLC is a courageous force for justice in this country, tirelessly confronting violent hate and standing up for communities that too often are denied safety, dignity, and opportunity,” said Jennifer Cannistra, Executive Director of the National Health Law Program. “We are proud to support SPLC and to have worked alongside them to advance the rights of underserved people, particularly low-income communities and people of color across the South. Efforts to punish organizations for protecting civil rights and challenging extremism should concern everyone who believes in democracy and equal justice under the law.”

NHeLP recognizes the deep connection between civil rights, economic justice, and access to health care. Attacks on organizations like SPLC are part of a broader effort to silence advocates working to build a more equitable and inclusive society.
