The National Health Law Program 50th Anniversary Celebration

Los Angeles Reception

The National Health Law Program’s 50th Anniversary Celebration culminated in Los Angeles, the city where the organization was founded 50 years ago. Many who have fought for greater access to health care for low-income individuals and families alongside NHeLP joined us at the reception held at the beautiful California Endowment Center for Healthy Communities. Renowned activist, Dolores Huerta, offered remarks, and the President and CEO of The California Endowment, Dr. Robert K. Ross, presented the inaugural Henry Waxman Award for Health Care Advocacy to California Attorney General Xavier Becerra on behalf of NHeLP. The Award was established to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the National Health Law Program and is named in honor of Henry Waxman, a fearless legislator who has spent his career fighting to protect and improve access to quality health care for low-income people, first in the California legislature and then for many years in the U.S. House of Representatives (watch the video greetings by Congressman Waxman here).
