Position: Sexual and Reproductive Health Staff Attorney or Policy Analyst—Southern State Strategies (Remote)
Reports to: Director, Sexual and Reproductive Health
Status: Full-time Non-Exempt
Start Date: August 12, 2024

THE ORGANIZATION

The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) protects and advances the health rights of  low-income and underserved individuals. NHeLP engages in national, state, and local advocacy efforts, including analyses of federal and state laws, policy advocacy,  litigation, continuing legal education, and individual technical support. We work with  lawyers and advocates, community-based entities, federal and state policymakers,  health care providers, and clients.

NHeLP is committed to health equity — ensuring that everyone can achieve the highest attainable standard of health — and to cultivating an internal environment that empowers an exceptional and diverse staff. For more information, see our Equity  Stance. NHeLP particularly encourages Black, Indigenous, and people of color, women,  the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and others whose backgrounds may  contribute to the effective representation of low-income people and underserved communities to apply.

THE TEAM

NHeLP’s Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) team works to build a future in which all people in the United States have equitable access to the full range of reproductive and sexual health services, free from discrimination. While not a reproductive justice organization, NHeLP approaches SRH work through that lens.

THE POSITION

We are seeking a full time Staff Attorney or Policy Analyst to help to develop and implement NHeLP’s legal, policy, and advocacy strategies for advancing access to quality sexual and reproductive health, with a focus on our Southern state work. In particular, they will assist our SRH team with our policy advocacy capacity-building efforts at the interface of SRH and Medicaid in the U.S. South.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in sexual and reproductive health, rights, or justice, as well as working knowledge of the Medicaid program and Affordable Care Act. This candidate will think proactively and strategically as well as respond quickly to changing circumstances; have an interest in and willingness to listen and learn in partnership with state advocates; demonstrate strong leadership and initiative as well as communication, research, and writing skills; and be able to work individually and in teams as well as in coalitions. They will have experience working within communities of color and will demonstrate an understanding of the issues of contraceptive equity and reproductive justice as they affect people with low incomes, women, and LGBTQI+ Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, young people, and other underserved populations, particularly in the U.S. South.
