The National Health Law Program 50th Anniversary Celebration
Chapel Hill Reception
10/30/19
National Health Law Program’s 50th Anniversary Celebration continued in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with a sold-out reception at the Great Room at Top of the Hill on October 30, 2019. The Chapel Hill Host Committee Chair, Jane Preyer, opened the program, followed by our Executive Director, Elizabeth Taylor, and Legal Director, Jane Perkins. Former Congresswoman — the first African-American woman to represent North Carolina in Congress — and former Assistant Director-General of the United Nations Food Agriculture Organization,
the Honorable Eva Clayton, encouraged and inspired the guests with her spirited remarks.
“The National Health Law Program has reaffirmed that they are meeting a critical need for health care for the poor.
And they demonstrate the value of having independent, compassionate, courageous, and bright minds join together
to stand with and for the poor. Additionally they demonstrate, when we help the poor, we help ourselves and our nation…
The National Health Law Program is needed more today in 2019 than in 1969 to continue that pressure and legal representation to address different challenges in the Medicaid Program under a changing environment.”
Joined by many new and old friends in North Carolina, the National Health Law Program celebrated its 50-year-history of making impacts and recommitted to continuing its critical work to ensure that all people living in the United States have access to quality health care regardless of their income, race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or immigration status.
