The Fight to Defend Medicaid Is Far From Over
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act has been signed into law—enacting deep cuts, punitive work requirements, and dangerous restrictions that will gut Medicaid and take health care away from children, older adults, people with disabilities, and working families.
NHeLP is prepared to fight back. We will work to ensure that the bill’s harmful provisions are implemented in the least damaging way possible. We will continue to partner with advocates across the country to protect Medicaid enrollees. And, if their rights are threatened, we are ready to defend them.
For more than 55 years, NHeLP has protected and defended the rights of Medicaid enrollees. We know this fight. We’ve done it before. And we are ready to do it again. We will not allow these draconian policies to go unchallenged.
We’re using all of our resources to fight back against these cruel policies and defend the right to health care for those who need it most —but we can’t do it without you. Please consider making a donation today to help us continue to fight for health rights.
The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) is leading the charge to protect Medicaid and defend health care for those most at risk. We are taking the attacks head-on by:
-
Pushing back against harmful federal rollbacks in Congress;
-
Equipping state advocates with legal strategies and policy tools;
-
Strategizing with coalitions to defend health care access nationwide.
This goes beyond policy — it is about real lives. Millions of low-income families, children, people with disabilities, and older adults are at risk of losing the care they depend on.
We need your support to keep up the fight. Your donation directly fuels our legal action, advocacy, and rapid response efforts. Help us defend Medicaid — and the people who rely on it.

Medicaid provides health insurance to 1 in 5 people, amounting to 70 million people in the U.S.

Medicaid provides health insurance to 37 million children, nearly half of all children in the U.S.

64% of adults under 65 and insured through Medicaid work full or part time.

Medicaid is the primary payer of long-term services and supports in the U.S., covering 61% of services delivered in home and community based settings.
Medicaid cuts will result in real harm for real people. Join NHeLP in the fight to defend Medicaid and protect health rights.
This is a defining moment in the fight for quality, affordable health care for all. The OBBBA’s passage cuts nearly 1 trillion dollars from Medicaid and will undoubtedly take health care away from millions of people who desperately need it. Follow NHeLP on social media, help us spread the word about what’s at stake, and support NHeLP in the fight with a donation today.
