Joe McLean is an attorney in the National Health Law Program’s North Carolina office, focusing on Medicaid litigation. Before joining NHeLP, he served for two years as a clerk to the Honorable Catherine C. Eagles of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. He is a member of the North Carolina bar.
Joe graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in 2015. During law school, he worked with Bay Area clinics and volunteer groups focusing on housing, consumer, and juvenile justice issues, and he interned with the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office. During the summer, he worked at the ACLU of North Carolina and at the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy.
Joe earned his undergraduate degree in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he wrote for four years at the student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel. A native North Carolinian, he enjoys backpacking, classic Westerns, and Carolina basketball.
