WASHINGTON—In response to President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland, Elizabeth G. Taylor, executive director of the National Health Law Program (NHeLP) released the following statement:
“We welcome the President’s decision to nominate Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court and are confident that he brings the necessary intelligence and experience to fill the vacant seat. The Court needs a full bench to provide guidance on a variety of cases — some with great implications for our health care system and the people who depend on it. Now, we look to Senate leadership to end their stubborn refusal to begin the nomination process. In choosing to not fulfill its constitutional responsibility, the Senate is preventing our government from functioning in the best interests of the public.”
Merrick Garland currently serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He is a talented lawyer and an exceptional, experienced judge. He will be an asset to the Supreme Court.
