WASHINGTON—NHeLP Executive Director Emily Spitzer issued the following statement at the recent passing of civil rights attorney Julius Chambers.
“Julius Chambers was a tireless civil rights advocate, respected leader and formidable attorney. Our nation is better and more equitable from his indefatigable commitment to improving the health and well being of all persons. During his life, he never shied away from fighting the injustices that surrounded him. As a former board chairman at NHeLP, he brought this commitment to improving health programs and policies for the most vulnerable among us.
We are deeply saddened by his passing, which is an undeniable loss for the civil rights and legal community. His memory, his decades of activism and the justice he won for so many will live on.”
