On Sunday, April 14th, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver from HBO aired a new episode focused on Medicaid. John Oliver and his team explore the ways that Medicaid positively impacts the lives of millions of people with disabilities, children, and other low-income individuals and families. The episode also investigates how decades of partisan politics, underfunding, administrative barriers, and corporate greed have blunted Medicaid’s ability to provide access to quality health care for millions across the United States.

The National Health Law Program is proud of our work supporting the Last Week Tonight production team through our deep understanding of Medicaid law and policy. We are also proud to have litigated on behalf of individuals featured in the episode. Along with our Health Law Partners, many of whom were also consulted for the episode, we litigate to protect the health rights of individuals and families across the United States.
We remain committed to working with partners, including journalists, to build a society where everyone has access to quality health care, people can achieve their highest attainable standard of health, and everyone has all they need to flourish and thrive.
