National Health Law Program collaborates with pro bono partners to secure health rights for those in need.
Working together to protect health rights is an excellent opportunity for lawyers to expand their legal experience as well as use existing skills in new legal areas and contexts. Our pro bono projects engage partners, senior and junior associates, paralegals, and summer associates. Applying valuable research, drafting, and litigation skills and experience can make a meaningful impact for the public good.
With offices in Washington, DC, California, and North Carolina, state policy programs in every state, and a robust federal policy, National Health Law Program offers a variety of pro bono opportunities to protect health rights.
Our pro bono partners are a vital resource to our mission and the individuals and communities we serve. Leverage your skills and join us in this important work! To find out more, contact Dana Fisher-Livne or [email protected] .

Impact of our pro bono partners:
NHeLP staff share the impact of pro bono partnerships.
Medi-Cal Services Guide
The Medi-Cal Services Guide is a crucial resource for legal aid attorneys and health care advocates to understand what services are covered by the Medi-Cal program.
FDA Approval of Prescription Drugs
The memo you prepared provides important information about the FDA approval process and is useful in our efforts to push back against harmful state policies limiting Medicaid prescription drug coverage.
Pharmacy Benefit Manager
This memo helped NHeLP attorneys understand the context of the Governor’s proposal to move Medi-Cal drug coverage from managed care to fee-for-service. NHeLP attorneys used the memo to inform public comments they provided to the state on this proposal.
Reimbursement of midwife services in Medicaid and private insurance
It has already made an impact, having been published in a report from the Institute on Medicaid Innovation. NHeLP will also be turning this work into a publication together with an accompanying fact sheet, which we will distribute widely to our state advocates and other partners. There is a tremendous amount of interest in midwifery access now, especially for Medicaid populations. Your 50 state survey will be invaluable for our partners in this work!
