NHeLP Cheers President’s Budget, Calls on Congress to End Hyde Amendment

Washington, DC – “For nearly 45 years, the Hyde Amendment has denied Medicaid and other federal funding for abortions, exacerbating racial and economic injustices in health nationwide. Despite public support to end the coverage restriction’s war on reproductive health and justice, this is the first time in decades that a President has submitted a budget without it to Congress. We urge Congress to respond to this overdue moment by ending the Hyde Amendment’s discriminatory and deadly reign and passing the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act of 2021.” — Madeline Morcelle, staff attorney
