Health Advocates Urge CHIP Extension

Executive Summary

NHeLP joins other national health care and children’s advocacy groups urging Congress to extend the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). CHIP was first enacted in 1997 to provide funding to states to reduce the numbers of  uninsured  children, focusing on low income children in working families who don’t have access to job based coverage but earn too much to qualify for Medicaid. Funding is set to expire September 30, 2017, unless Congress approves its extension.
